Air Quality Improves in Delhi NCR as GRAP Restrictions Revoked

Authorities have lifted restrictions under the Graded Response Action Plan in Delhi NCR after a noticeable improvement in air quality, officials confirmed on Monday.

According to the Commission for Air Quality Management, the Air Quality Index dropped to 119, placing it in the “moderate” category. This improvement has been supported by favourable weather conditions, which helped disperse pollutants across the region.

Forecasts from the India Meteorological Department and the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology suggest that air quality is likely to remain stable in the coming days, allowing authorities to withdraw the restrictions.

GRAP Stage 1 measures had been in place since October 14, 2025. With their removal, several restrictions are no longer applicable. These included limits on the use of coal and firewood in tandoors at hotels and restaurants, as well as restrictions on diesel generator usage except for emergency purposes.

The Graded Response Action Plan consists of four stages based on pollution levels. Stage 1 is implemented when AQI ranges between 201 and 300, Stage 2 between 301 and 400, Stage 3 between 401 and 500, and Stage 4 when AQI exceeds 450.

Earlier this year, the region had faced severe pollution levels, leading to the imposition of the strictest Stage 4 restrictions on January 17. As air quality gradually improved, authorities rolled back the measures in phases. Stage 4 was lifted on January 20, followed by Stage 3 shortly after, and Stage 2 restrictions were removed on February 18.

The latest decision marks a significant relief for residents and businesses in Delhi NCR, although officials continue to monitor the situation closely to prevent any sudden deterioration in air quality.
