  New Delhi, July 15: Nearly seven in 10 children across India missed school or routine activities during the summer of 2026 due to extreme heat, while more than three quarters reported difficulty concentrating in class, according to a new report by child rights organisation CRY (Child Rights and You). The report Feeling the Heat Children Voices on Heat, Well Being and Learning in India surveyed more than 3,000 children aged 10 to 17 across 27 states and Union Territories. The study found that while the region accounted for nearly 60% of global mangrove losses between the 1980s and 2010, it has emerged as a leading contributor to global mangrove recovery since 2010. Greenland's ice sheet lost an estimated 105 billion tonnes of ice during the 2024–25 season with scientists warning that the increasing spread of darkened ice is creating a self reinforcing cycle that could accelerate future melting. Satellite observations showed that during the summer of 2025, large areas of Greenland's ice sheet became visibly darker as black carbon, dust and other impurities accumulated on the surface after seasonal snow melted away.   Mangaluru: A community led initiative aimed at preventing plastic and other waste from entering the Phalguni, Nandini and Shambhavi rivers was launched in Dakshina Kannada district on Sunday, with 46 villages selected for scientific waste management interventions. Named Hasiru Samvada the programme is a joint initiative of Alva's Education Foundation, Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat, the Paryavarana Samrakshana Team, voluntary organisations, industries and educational institutions.
