Landslide on Yamunotri Trek Kills Two Pilgrims, Rescue Ops Underway

A tragic landslide struck the Yamunotri trek route near Kainchi Bhairav Mandir on Sunday, claiming the lives of two pilgrims and injuring another. The incident occurred approximately 20 meters above the pathway, catching the victims by surprise as they made their way toward the revered temple.

Rescue efforts were immediately launched by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and local police. The bodies of the deceased were recovered while the injured pilgrim reportedly from Maharashtra has been admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The district emergency operations center in Uttarkashi confirmed the ongoing search efforts to ensure no one else remains trapped under the debris. Medical teams and district officials have been deployed at the site to provide assistance and monitor the situation.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami offered his condolences to the bereaved families and assured that all necessary support will be provided. “We are deeply saddened by this tragedy and will continue to do everything possible to assist the victims and ensure the safety of all pilgrims,” the Chief Minister said in a statement.

The Yamunotri Dham, one of the four sacred Char Dham pilgrimage sites in Uttarakhand, attracts thousands of devotees each year. However, its steep terrain remains highly vulnerable to landslides during the monsoon season.

Authorities have urged pilgrims to remain cautious and follow official advisories while trekking in the region.
