The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast active monsoon conditions across large parts of northwest central and eastern India for the coming week with widespread rain expected to continue through the first week of July.
According to the IMD’s latest bulletin issued on June 30, very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated locations today in Uttarakhand, West Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Gangetic West Bengal, and Jharkhand. Several central and eastern states including East and West Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, and Odisha are also expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall on multiple days this week.
Delhi is likely to remain generally cloudy with light to moderate showers and thunderstorms through July 3. Daytime temperatures in the capital may dip below normal by 5 to 7 degrees Celsius.
The ghat areas of central Maharashtra, Konkan and Goa, and Gujarat are also bracing for continuous heavy downpours over the next seven days. Coastal Karnataka, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh are expected to see increased rainfall activity beginning today.
In the northeast, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are likely to receive very heavy rainfall on July 2 and 3.
Strong gusty winds ranging from 40 to 90 km/h were recorded in Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Punjab, and are expected to affect southern and eastern regions in the coming days. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Rayalaseema are likely to experience continued hot and humid conditions until July 2.
The IMD has issued advisories for fishermen, urging them not to venture into the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal due to rough sea conditions expected to persist until July 5.
