A sudden cloudburst near Mukh village in Chamoli district, Uttarakhand, has triggered a wave of concern as several heavy rains battered the region. While no casualties were reported, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) was swiftly deployed to assess and manage the situation.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a four-day heavy rainfall warning across districts, including Uttarkashi, Tehri, Bageshwar, Dehradun, and Rudraprayag, urging residents and tourists to exercise caution.
Amid the escalating rainfall, the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) has sounded a landslide alert for four vulnerable districts, including Chamoli, where the cloudburst occurred.
The extreme weather has already caused infrastructural damage, with a key bridge on the national highway to Yamunotri washed away, severely disrupting travel on the prominent pilgrimage route. Connectivity remains a major challenge as monsoon rains continue to lash the hilly terrain.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami conducted an aerial survey of the flood-affected regions, assuring full government support. He emphasized that rescue and relief operations are being monitored closely and that all departments are on alert.
With the monsoon intensifying, authorities are urging people in high-risk zones to remain indoors and avoid travel unless absolutely necessary. The state continues to brace for more rain and potential emergencies in the coming days.
