Madhya Pradesh is reeling under intense monsoon fury as incessant rainfall over the past three days has triggered flooding and structural collapses across Guna, Shivpuri, Ashoknagar, and Gwalior. At least four people have died, while over 250 residents have been rescued in swift joint operations by the Indian Army, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
In Guna district, two people died due to wall collapses, while nearly 150 stranded residents were rescued from Fatehgarh and Bamori areas. Guna SP Ankit Soni confirmed the activation of a control room and full coordination between police and civil authorities. Collector Kishore Kumar Kanyal described the situation as critical, with multiple areas submerged and rescue efforts continuing round the clock.
In Gwalior, tragedy struck when a house collapsed in heavy rains, killing two cousins, Ritesh and Radha, adding to the growing death toll from weather-related incidents in the state.
The Indian Army, operating under the MP/PMP Sub Area and HQ Central Command, has deployed three flood relief columns with accompanying medical teams. So far, more than 100 people have been rescued in Shivpuri, Ashoknagar, and Guna, with officials confirming the army’s ongoing coordination with civil agencies.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Alert for several regions, urging caution as rainfall continues to pound central Madhya Pradesh.
With key highways inundated and several villages cut off, rescue teams remain on high alert, navigating treacherous terrain to reach the worst-hit populations. Authorities have appealed to residents in low-lying areas to move to safer zones as the monsoon maintains its grip over the region.
