Monsoon Alert Heavy Rains Thunderstorms Forecast in 15 States Till August 28

The monsoon continues to tighten its grip across the country, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing fresh alerts for heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms in multiple states over the next five days.

In Uttarakhand Chamoli district a cloudburst triggered widespread destruction, leaving several homes and shops buried under debris. Meanwhile Delhi and surrounding regions are expected to witness spells of heavy rain through August 28, disrupting normal life.

Alerts Across North and East India

According to IMD Jharkhand and Odisha are likely to experience heavy showers on August 23, while parts of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh will face continuous downpours for nearly a week. Bihar and West Bengal are also bracing for intense rainfall between August 23 and 26, with thunder and lightning predicted in many districts.

Hilly states including Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh, will remain on alert for rain and thunderstorms throughout the week.

West Coast, Northeast and Southern States on Watch

Very heavy rainfall is forecast for Konkan, Goa, and Madhya Maharashtra on August 26, with strong winds lashing the Gujarat coast for five consecutive days. The northeast will also remain drenched, as Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Arunachal Pradesh witness heavy spells until August 27.

On the southern front, Karnataka, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh are expected to see heavy showers on August 26 and 28. Tamil Nadu and Telangana are predicted to receive rain accompanied by thunder and lightning on August 23 and 24.
