Severe Cyclonic Storm Montha is closing in on the Andhra Pradesh coast, prompting widespread alerts and emergency preparations. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the cyclone was located about 180 km south-southeast of Kakinada and is expected to make landfall near the area later today, bringing strong winds reaching up to 100 kmph and heavy rainfall across coastal regions.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has placed the state on high alert, instructing officials to carry out immediate relief and rescue operations in all 39 constituencies likely to be affected. During a teleconference with senior state and district leaders, Naidu emphasized swift coordination and clear communication to minimize damage and safeguard residents.
Authorities have begun evacuating people from low-lying and vulnerable villages, including Kothapatnam, while National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams are assisting local administrations. Access to damaged roads has been restricted to prevent accidents, and shelters are being prepared to accommodate displaced families.
The state government has also directed coastal districts to maintain round-the-clock control rooms, ensure the supply of essential commodities, and monitor weather updates closely. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea as rough conditions intensify along the coast.
With Cyclone Montha’s landfall imminent, authorities continue to reinforce embankments, inspect power lines, and mobilize health and sanitation teams to respond to any emergency that may arise once the storm hits.
