Indian Navy Chief Visits US HADR Centre in Hawaii to Boost Indo-Pacific Disaster Response

WASHINGTON, November 18 — The Chief of the Indian Navy, Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, visited the Centre for Excellence in Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance (CFE-DMHA) at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam in Hawaii as part of his official visit to the U.S., signaling a focus on enhancing joint capabilities in humanitarian aid and disaster relief (HADR).

The visit underscores the shared commitment between India and the U.S. to strengthening regional preparedness and humanitarian partnerships across the Indo-Pacific.

Focus on Disaster Resilience and Maritime Operations

Admiral Tripathi received a comprehensive briefing on the CFE-DMHA’s vision, lines of efforts, and initiatives related to HADR capacity building and regional cooperation.

According to the Indian Navy, discussions centered on enhancing collaboration and exchanging best practices in several key areas:

• Disaster response mechanisms.

• Maritime humanitarian operations.

• Resilience building across the Indo-Pacific region.

This engagement is part of the Indian Navy Chief’s ongoing official visit aimed at solidifying the “robust and enduring maritime partnership” between the two nations, which is a key pillar of the broader bilateral Defence Partnership.

Strengthening Interoperability

Earlier in the visit, Admiral Tripathi focused on enhancing operational synergy and interoperability between the two navies.

He visited the Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer USS Daniel Inouye, receiving a briefing on the ship’s advanced maritime surveillance systems and multi-mission versatility.

He toured Joint Base Pearl Harbor–Hickam and was briefed on the operational capabilities and ongoing initiatives of the US Pacific Fleet.

Last week, Admiral Tripathi held high-level discussions with top US military leadership, including Admiral Samuel J Paparo, Commander of the US Indo-Pacific Command, and Admiral Stephen T Koehler, Commander of the US Pacific Fleet. The Indian Navy’s spokesperson confirmed these interactions “reaffirmed the enduring partnership… anchored in mutual trust, shared values, and a common commitment to a free, open, inclusive, and rules-based Indo-Pacific.”
