Nine laborers were reported trapped in a coal mine in the Umrangso region of Assam‘s Dima Hasao district on Monday. Chief Minister Sarma, sharing the names and details of the laborers on his X handle, expressed deep concern over the situation. He said that assistance from the army has been sought while rescue teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are en route to the site.
“Distressing news from Umrangso, where laborers are trapped in a coal mine. The exact number and status are yet unknown. The DC, SP, and my colleague Shri Kaushik Rai are rushing to the site. Praying to God for everyone’s safety,” the Chief Minister posted.
Dima Hasao Superintendent of Police (SP) Mayank Kumar Jha said, “Several people are feared trapped inside the coal mine. We can’t confirm the exact figure as of now.” Local authorities have been working tirelessly to assess the situation and prepare for the arrival of specialized rescue teams.
The Chief Minister offered prayers for the trapped laborers and assured that every possible measure is being taken to ensure their safety. The incident has drawn attention to the risks associated with mining in the region and has sparked prayers and concern across the state.
