Doda, July 12: Rajya Sabha MP Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo has urged the district administration to expedite post disaster restoration work in Thathri town following the recent flash floods that caused widespread damage to infrastructure and disrupted normal life.
In a communication addressed to the Deputy Commissioner of Doda on July 11, Kichloo called for immediate restoration measures under the Post Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA) and SASCI Scheme. He also requested the administration to examine and act on a public resolution submitted along with the letter.
In his communication the MP sought prompt action for restoration works in the flood affected town emphasizing the need for timely intervention to address the damage caused by the disaster.
The appeal comes after flash floods severely affected Thathri, damaging residential houses, commercial establishments, vehicles, roads and other public infrastructure. The disaster also disrupted traffic along National Highway 244, prompting rescue operations and restoration efforts by the district administration.
Kichloo’s intervention follows a similar appeal by Doda MLA Mehraj Malik who recently urged Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to conduct a comprehensive Post Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA), declare severely affected areas as flood prone where technically feasible, and formulate a long term rehabilitation and relocation plan for vulnerable families.
With both the Rajya Sabha MP and the local legislator advocating sustained government intervention demands are growing for authorities to move beyond immediate relief and implement long term restoration, disaster mitigation and rehabilitation measures in Thathri and other flood affected areas of the Chenab Valley.
