New Delhi, September 25, 2026: Delhi traffic planning authority has approved a 5.5-kilometre elevated corridor on Maa Anandmayee Marg, aimed at easing congestion between the Outer Ring Road and Mehrauli Badarpur Road.
The six lane elevated corridor will allow through traffic to bypass around 12 intersections reducing the number of junctions vehicles currently have to negotiate along the busy stretch. The road also carries significant traffic linked to the Okhla Phase I and II industrial areas.
The project includes an underpass and a roundabout at the Crowne Plaza intersection on Okhla Estate Marg another congestion prone location in the area.
According to the approved plan, some through traffic will shift to the elevated structure, potentially reducing vehicle volumes on the existing road. The project also provides for improved infrastructure for pedestrians and non-motorised transport at ground level.
The corridor is expected to provide a faster connection between the Outer Ring Road and Mehrauli Badarpur Road while separating through traffic from local movements at several intersections.
The Unified Traffic and Transportation Infrastructure (Planning and Engineering) Centre (UTTIPEC) has also approved a separate decongestion plan for Mukarba Chowk in northwest Delhi.
Under the plan, the existing six-lane Road Over Bridge on the Outer Ring Road will be widened to 10 lanes.
A new four lane Road Over Bridge will also be constructed over the Delhi-Sonipat railway line providing a direct connection between Jahangirpuri Industrial Area and Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar.
Officials estimate that the new connection could divert about 20 per cent of the traffic currently passing through Mukarba Chowk. The expanded bridge is intended to improve traffic flow between Mukarba Chowk and Madhuban Chowk and reduce congestion on NH-44 near the junction.
Six Metro stations receive multimodal plans
UTTIPEC has also approved Multi Modal Integration (MMI) plans for six Delhi Metro stations: GTB Nagar, Sarita Vihar, Akshardham, Rohini West, Malviya Nagar and Shastri Park.
The plans focus on the area within roughly 300 metres of each station addressing the first and last mile portions of commuters’ journeys.
Proposed measures include improved pedestrian access and safety, better walkability, last mile connectivity and smoother interchange between different modes of transport.
The Rohini West plan also includes access improvements associated with Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital.
All 31 Phase I and II station plans cleared
With the approval of these six plans all 31 MMI plans prepared by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation for stations across its Phase I and Phase II corridors have now received clearance from UTTIPEC.
The approvals were granted during the 70th meeting of UTTIPEC’s Governing Body, chaired by Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu.
The projects together are intended to address congestion at major road junctions while improving connections between roads, public transport and pedestrian infrastructure across Delhi.
