The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall in parts of southern India, particularly Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, over the coming days due to a developing low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal. The system is expected to form on December 7 and move west-northwestwards, reaching the southwest Bay of Bengal near Sri Lanka by December 12.
This weather system is likely to bring significant rainfall to Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on December 11 and 12, and to Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema on December 12. Several districts, including Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, and Ramanathapuram, are expected to receive heavy rainfall on December 11, with more areas like Chengalpattu, Viluppuram, and Cuddalore facing similar conditions on December 12.
Meanwhile, northern India is preparing for the effects of a fresh Western Disturbance starting December 8. The Western Himalayan region, including Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, is expected to experience light to moderate snowfall or rainfall. Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and western Uttar Pradesh may also see isolated light rain between December 8 and 9.
The IMD has also warned of dense fog in parts of Assam, Meghalaya, Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh over the coming days. Additionally, cold wave conditions are likely in northern Rajasthan from December 10 to 12.
People in the affected regions are advised to remain cautious, follow weather updates, and take necessary precautions to stay safe during this period of intense weather activity.
