Himachal Paralyzed by Monsoon Fury: 400+ Roads Shut Crores in Damages

Himachal Pradesh is reeling under the impact of relentless monsoon rains, which have shut down 404 roads and brought normal life to a halt across several districts. Mandi, Chamba, and Kullu are among the hardest hit, as landslides, floods, and waterlogging disrupt transportation, utilities, and public services.

According to the State Emergency Operation Centre, Una received the highest rainfall on Friday 260.8 mm triggering urban flooding and stranding vehicles and residents in low-lying areas. The Khab-Gramphu National Highway, a crucial route in the region, remains blocked.

Educational institutions across the state have been closed as a safety precaution. Power transformers and water schemes have suffered heavy damage, cutting off electricity and clean water supply in multiple areas. With several flooded homes and broken roads, public mobility and daily life have been thrown into chaos.

Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri confirmed that the government is on high alert, coordinating rescue and relief operations round the clock. Emergency crews are clearing landslides, restoring infrastructure, and evacuating vulnerable populations.

Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla, during a visit to Tungal Colony, assured affected families of government support and emphasized the urgency of quick rehabilitation and aid.

Since the start of the monsoon season, 101 people have died in rain-related incidents, and the state has reported losses exceeding ₹1,692 crore. The situation worsened after a partial breach at the Malana-II Hydropower project, sparking further concerns over safety and environmental stability.

With heavy rains predicted to continue, Himachal Pradesh faces an uphill battle against nature’s fury, as officials urge residents to remain cautious and follow advisories closely
