NEW DELHI – Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal on Friday, September 5, 2025, visited a flood relief camp in Shastri Park, northeast Delhi, and criticized what he described as delays in the government’s relief efforts for flood-affected residents. Kejriwal, a former chief minister, urged the Delhi government to provide adequate relief materials, including food and tents, to those displaced by the recent floods.
Speaking to reporters at the camp, Kejriwal highlighted the hardships faced by the affected families. “I can see that people are facing issues. They are not getting food on time. There are mosquitoes everywhere. It has been raining, but tents were only put up yesterday,” he said. “This is a natural calamity. We urge the government to provide facilities to people. It is the responsibility of the government to make adequate arrangements.”
Kejriwal also drew a comparison to international aid, questioning why the central government could send relief materials to earthquake-hit Afghanistan but not provide timely assistance to flood victims within its own borders. He appealed to the BJP-led central government to provide aid to all flood-affected states in North India, including Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, and Delhi.
During his visit, Kejriwal also raised concerns about the overall state of Delhi’s infrastructure, alleging that the city’s flood-like situation was partly due to the failure of desilting drains on time. He pointed out that many areas were facing sewer backflow and a lack of drinking water, and urged the government to address these issues promptly.
Kejriwal’s visit to Delhi’s relief camps comes a day after he visited Punjab, another AAP-ruled state, to assess the devastating flood situation there. During his tenure as Chief Minister in 2023, Delhi experienced one of its worst flood crises, with the Yamuna River reaching a record high, leading to the evacuation of more than 25,000 people.
