The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread rainfall across large parts of the country on July 25 as the southwest monsoon remains active. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in several regions, with Gujarat likely to experience the most intense weather conditions.
According to the IMD isolated parts of Gujarat are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, with the possibility of extremely heavy rain. Similar conditions are also forecast over Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Odisha and Rajasthan.
Heavy rainfall is also likely at isolated locations in Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Kerala, Coastal Karnataka and the northeastern states, including Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
The active monsoon conditions are being driven by a low pressure area over southeast Rajasthan and adjoining Madhya Pradesh, along with an active monsoon trough stretching across northern India. These weather systems are drawing abundant moisture inland, sustaining widespread rainfall across western, central, northern and eastern India.
The IMD has also predicted thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds over parts of Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan, Telangana, Jharkhand, Coastal Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, among other regions.
The weather agency said the monsoon is expected to remain active over the coming days, with fairly widespread to widespread rainfall likely across the Himalayan states, the west coast, central India and several eastern regions.
The forecast follows an exceptionally wet spell in western India. During the previous 24 hours, Gujarat recorded exceptionally heavy rainfall at isolated locations, while parts of Konkan, Maharashtra, Saurashtra and Kutch also witnessed extremely heavy rain.
The IMD has advised residents in affected areas to remain alert, monitor official weather updates and take necessary precautions as heavy rainfall is expected to continue through the weekend, particularly across western, central and northwestern India.
