Uttar Pradesh is witnessing a remarkable transformation in its environmental landscape, with the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign emerging as a key driver of green progress. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, highlighting the success of this initiative, credited the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who launched the campaign on World Environment Day 2024.
The campaign encourages citizens to plant trees in honor of their mothers, blending emotional connection with ecological responsibility. Since its launch, the program has significantly boosted forest cover in Uttar Pradesh, which has grown from 9 percent in 2017 to 10 percent in 2025, covering an additional 5 lakh acres.
Adityanath underscored the campaign’s crucial role in climate regulation and disaster mitigation, particularly in tackling land degradation, reducing the impact of floods and landslides, and improving overall ecological balance. He urged widespread public participation, aiming to turn the initiative into a people’s movement for sustainability.
In a bold step forward, the state is preparing for an ambitious record-setting plantation drive, with plans to plant 37 crore saplings in a single day. This mega effort reflects Uttar Pradesh’s growing leadership in environmental stewardship and commitment to Prime Minister Modi’s larger mission of green development.
As the campaign gains ground, ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ is not only greening the state’s terrain but also nurturing a deeper cultural and environmental consciousness among citizens.
